When to go to Thailand

When planning your Thailand holiday adventure, timing is key. The ideal period is the “cool” season, November to February. This is perfect for exploring vibrant cities like Bangkok, trekking through the lush landscapes of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai in the north, or enjoying the pristine beaches of Phuket and Krabi in the south, all with comfortable temperatures and minimal rainfall.

For those who embrace the heat, March to May, the “hot” season, offers a different experience. While temperatures soar, it’s excellent for island hopping in the southern islands such as Koh Samui or Phi Phi, where the warm waters are incredibly inviting. Hiking enthusiasts can still explore the northern mountains, though early morning starts are recommended. History buffs can delve into the ancient ruins of Ayutthaya, though be prepared for intense heat.

The “rainy” season, from June to October, sees fewer tourists which makes it a budget-friendly option. While downpours are expected, especially in the afternoons, they rarely last all day. This is a great time to explore cultural sites in Bangkok without the usual crowds, or to enjoy the verdant landscapes of the north. The islands in the Gulf of Thailand, like Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, and Koh Tao, often see less rainfall than the Andaman coast during this period.
