Hideaway Island Resort

Hideaway Island Resort and Marine Sanctuary is a small coral atoll that’s about as close as you’ll get to an unspoiled island paradise. Power is generated around the clock on the island, water is fed from the top of the pristine Cascade waterfalls and outside of the office there are no phones or faxes.

Surrounded by clear turquoise water, coral reefs and thousands of fish, this tropical island resort is the custodian of one of Vanuatu’s only marine sanctuaries. The Coral reef surrounding the island is ideal for snorkelling or scuba diving right from the shore. Our experienced PADI Instructors and Dive masters will ensure you see the best of every site, whether you’re a first time or an experienced diver.

There is also plenty for the non-diver to do. A day on the island can be as busy or as quiet as you choose. As well as snorkelling and scuba diving, you can try sailing and beach volleyball, or use us as a base for a myriad of other tours and activities such as game fishing, visiting the Cascade Waterfalls or playing a round of golf. If you prefer a more relaxing holiday, you can relax on the beach or poolside and enjoy the view of beautiful Mele Bay.

A twenty minute drive from Port Vila and a 5 minute ferry ride from Mele beach to the island, located in beautiful Mele Bay close to the Golf Course and Cascade Waterfalls.

Constant action or complete relaxation are both options for your holiday at Hideaway Island. From sitting with your toes in the sand in our ‘On the Beach’ restaurant and watching the sun set over the marine sanctuary, to doing a dive course, joining our daily snorkel safari or using us as a base for a host of day tours, the options are almost endless.

For guests at Hideaway there are a number of water and land based activities to keep you occupied free of charge. Other activities are available at very reasonable prices. We’re happy to recommend a number of day tours available too.

The food served up in our recently renovated On the Beach bar and restaurant is just one thing that keeps our guests coming back here year after year. Where else can you sit with your toes in the sand overlooking beautiful coral reefs and crystal clear tropical waters while enjoying first rate food served up by a chef whos worked around the world, but now calls Vanuatu home. A real local character, Bruce is as likely to share his humour with you as he is his food. Either is a real treat, and if you can get both, youre bound to have a great night.

Furthermore, not only is the food we serve up a treat to look at and eat, its not likely to break the bank either. The food at Hideaway is of a quality and value we believe you’d find hard to better. We scour the markets and local suppliers every day, so that only the freshest of ingredients are ever included in the food. It also makes for great variety, with the blackboard menu changing daily depending on the produce available. Whether youre after a simple burger, a slice of cake or pie, or wonderfully fresh seafood, chances are there’ll be something here to tempt your palate. And if you have any special dietary requirements or desires, just let us know and we’ll be sure to accommodate you.

Melanesian Feast – Thursay 6.30 pm – 9.00 pm

Enjoy the pageantry of an authentic Melanesian feast. Mele villagers prepare a selection of fresh local dishes and serve them by an open fire. You’ll be treated to selection of authentic Melanesian music, together with local dance. And don’t be surprised if you find yourself joining in, particularly after tasting a shell of kava provided for your enjoyment. Definitely an experience not to be missed. hope that helps.

Two Bedroom Oceanfront Villa – built by one of the owners as their private residence, this beautiful Villa is designed to take full advantage of the oceanfront location.

The Villa includes the first level, with open beam vaulted ceilings, tile floors, rosewood kitchen cabinets, tasteful furniture and original artwork which all contribute to the feeling of style and elegance. The Villa includes a laundry room, high speed internet connection, air conditioning, satellite TV, DVD and a CD player connected to Bose outdoor speakers.

Outside, the partially covered patio features a swimming pool and oversize wicker chairs. A separate deck, with a hardwood table & colourful umbrella, situated 8 metres above the beach offers a dramatic outlook.

The master bedroom with en-suite features a high vaulted rosewood ceiling and corner spa. French doors open directly onto the terracotta tiled patio and pool area surrounded by tropical foliage and lawn. The second bedroom has a high vaulted ceiling and a private en-suite.

One Bedroom Oceanfront Villa – Built by one of the owners as private residences, this beautiful Villas was designed to take full advantage of their oceanfront location. This very spacious 230 square metre Villa features a wall of glass doors that completely open to the outside deck. The master bedroom with ensuite features French doors which completely open to the oceanfront deck and tropical gardens. This stylish Villa would be perfect for a romantic getaway.

One Bedroom Oceanfront Bungalow: Hideaway has ten free-standing One Bedroom Bungalows. The bungalows are situated on low bank waterfront with spectacular views of Mele Bay. The units have vaulted ceilings and are tastefully decorated in a tropical & colourful theme. They are approximately 60 square metres and also feature a covered porch with a double hammock and a table with 2 chairs which are perfect for relaxation as you enjoy the stunning view. Amenities include a bar fridge and coffee/tea making facilities

Attached One Bedroom Oceanfront Bungalow – Hideaway has two One-Bedroom Bungalows that share one common wall with a home on the island. Both bungalows feature the same amenities found in all Hideaway Oceanside bungalows and are situated on a private low bank waterfront setting

Twin Share Rooms – the six Twin-Share beach units are situated on the beach and are ideal for the budget conscious couple or single traveler. The building has a wide wrap around covered veranda with tables and chairs which are ideal for lounging and taking in the water views. The fan cooled rooms are furnished with a double or twin beds, a bar fridge, clothes cupboard and a hand basin. Separate shower and toilet facilities are adjacent and connected by a covered walkway.

Quad Share Rooms – each fan cooled quad share room has two bunk beds with individual bunk lights, power outlet and locker. The central common area provides a lounge area for guests The facility has separate male & female changing room each with two showers, three toilets and two wash basins.

Kids under 16 yrs stay free in existing bedding. During your stay you can also enjoy the following: cultural walk & kava tasting in Mele Village (Tuesday afternoons only), one Glass bottom boat ride (minimum stay 4 nights), use of snorkel gear, kayaks, paddle boat and Maricat sailboat & snorkel safari to Coral Gardens any day at noon

Complimentary bottle of sparkling wine, flowers and card on arrival with a minimum stay of 4 nights in a One Bedroom Bungalow or Two Bedroom Villa.

Your island-style wedding dreams can become a reality on Hideaway with a wedding ceremony either on the beach or in a garden setting overlooking the ocean. For the one price we’ll organise a minister, license fees, your marriage certificate, floral decorations for the ceremony area and a bottle of champagne for after the big event.

If you’d like, for a little bit extra, we will also put on a meal for you and your friends to celebrate the special occasion, and can also arrange a photographer, choir or string band, additional flowers, make-up and wedding cakes. Prices for packages including accommodation and/or catering vary depending on your requirements but are very reasonable.
